YACVic’s Rural Youth Awards are back again! The biannual event is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible work, stories and achievements of young people, youth workers and community groups in rural and regional Victoria.

This year’s ceremony will be taking place on Thursday 26 September, with over 100 people to be hosted at Queens Hall in Parliament House.

“The Rural Youth Awards are more than just a celebration; they are a testament to the strength and innovation of our rural and regional young people and youth workers. We are proud to acknowledge their contributions and showcase how their initiatives are shaping the future of their communities”, says Mary Nega, CEO of Youth Affairs Council Victoria (YACVic).

“There are many unique challenges that rural and regional young people experience, compared to their metro-based counterparts, so it’s wonderful to be able to create an event that celebrates their contributions to civic life”, says Derm Ryan, Head of YACVic Rural.

In this year’s awards, a new category has been added: Outstanding youth participation in community-based disaster resilience.

“Young people are increasingly taking active roles in many aspects of their community, including planning and responding to threats of climate and disasters in their local communities. This new award category is an opportunity to recognise their contributions to these challenges”, says Mr Ryan.
