There are 4 ways to manage or look after your NDIS plan and budget.
You look after your NDIS plan
NDIS wording: Self-managed
This means you organise your own disability supports. The NDIS will give you money to pay for the disability supports in your plan.
This option gives you the most control over your disability supports and services.
You can get support from people and companies that are not A person or company who has signed up to offer disability supports through the NDIS. They have been checked by the government.registered with the NDIS.
To look after your own NDIS plan you need to use the online A government website that helps you look after your NDIS plan and supports. You need to use the website to claim invoices through the NDIS. myplace portal to record your disability supports and the money you have used.
You need to be good at paying bills and keeping track of how much you spend.
Someone who knows how to manage your plan can do it
NDIS wording: Plan-managed
A plan manager can look after some, or all, of your supports. They have to be approved by the NDIS to manage your plan.
They can help you organise and pay for your disability supports. They look after your money and keep records for you.
With a plan manager, you can still get disability supports from people and companies that are not registered with the NDIS.
A plan manager is paid for with money in your plan.
NDIA looks after your NDIS plan
NDIS wording: Agency-managed
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) can organise your supports. The NDIA is the An organisation that is part of the government.government agency that runs the NDIS.
If your NDIS plan is looked after by the NDIA you can only get supports from some people and organisations. They have to be registered with the NDIS.
The NDIA will pay the people or companies who support you directly.
A combination of these
You can choose more than one of these options to manage your NDIS plan. For example, you might choose to self-manage some of your disability supports while a plan manager looks after your other supports. This means that you can have as much control over your NDIS plan as you want to.
If you would like to look after your own NDIS plan one day, but do not feel ready now, that could be one of your goals. For example, you could get support to learn how to look after your money and keep Proof that something happened. Example: Something written in a notebook or a saved email.records of what you spend.
If you are not sure, that is okay. You can talk to the person creating your NDIS plan about your options.
