There are a number of benefits to a workplace that encourages and embraces disability pride, for all staff, not just disabled people. 

Disability is the only marginalised group that anyone can become part of at any time. People can develop disability as they age or, in the case of psychosocial disability, after an emotional upheaval or traumatic event. 

Having an accessible workplace that embraces disability means that nondisabled employees know they will be treated fairly if they happen to become disabled. 

Talking about disability pride in a workplace means that employees with disability can safely own their identities at work and are likely to be more productive and engaged.  

Employees can create communities with allies and / or other people with disability, fostering healthy professional relationships.

Plus, if an organisation gains a reputation for being disability friendly, people with disability will become loyal customers, members or users of your service. Considering that 1 in 5 people in Australia are disabled, that's a lot of potential customers, members or users.

Finally, accessibility considerations can benefit staff and community members with or without disability. For instance, ramps are essential for wheelchair users, but are also useful for parents with prams or people carrying heavy loads. Fresh air, masks and ventilation can reduce the risk of all employees getting sick. Flexible working arrangements can benefit parents and/or people with other caring responsibilities.
